Hodgkinson Concludes Season with Victorious Display at Athlos Meet in New York
Hodgkinson recorded her fastest time of 1:54.61 the previous season in London.
The Olympic champion concluded her 800m season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.
{The reigning Olympic champion, who secured third place at the World Championships recently, excelled in an outstanding win in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.
Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I haven't competed much this year so it was likely easier for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said the 23-year-old.
"The atmosphere out there is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."
The female-exclusive event packed Icahn Stadium in its second year, introducing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to present the victors with their crowns.
Previous champions received sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.
The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.
American Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the sprint double.
